Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Select, Start... It's either a recipe for negotiating the complex gendarmes & towers of Ellingwood Ridge, or a video game code! I dug this ridge-line, although there was far less class 4 scrambling on solid rock and far more loose, sandy gullies than I would have preferred. 7 hours car > summit.

Blargh...
LONG day for sure, about 8 hours to the summit on a solo hike. Lots of side hilling on lose rock when not on the ledges or the ridge. Not my favorite route ever.

tedious
Was expecting to be on the ridge more, like the first section, but most of the way was gulley traversing, which was interesting, but got old.
A while ago, had to hunker down for a bit on the ridge to wait out a T-storm.

Long Day
Great climb. Route is pretty comitting, so check the whether and hustle.

Down to the left, and around...
You learn quickly that this is the tried and true method for negotiating the never-ending series of gendarmes. Down to the left and around, then repeat. The ridge itself took many hours. Sticking to the crest is 5th class, can be kept 3rd class if you're willing to drop down further off the ridge at times. We stayed in the 3rd/4th class range.
