Emerald Lake and the Timp...

Emerald Lake and the Timp...

Emerald Lake and the Timp "glacier", both mere shadows of their former selves due to the continuing drought conditions.

Re: Wow

I was up at the glacier area just this past saturday. I wish now I would have taken a picture to show how it looks now. I was there on October the 9th.

Right now there is considerably more ice/snow showing than in the picture taken last september. This summer was not as hot as the summer of '03. I would guess the heat melted more of the ice last year than this year.

Since I have hiked up to the glacier many times this summer, I have noticed how rapidly the snow fields in the area have dissipated. The waterfalls that were fed by the melt were all gone in late september, except for the two lower ones at the start of the trail.

If I get up there again before the heavy snows come, I will get a current picture showing whats left of the ice this year.

I can't belive it's gone.

Plugger, exactly when (date?) was this photo taken? I can't believe the "glacier" and lake are nearly gone. I've never seen it like that. It's very sad.

Hi Scott...

This was taken last fall, September 17, 2003. That's what I thought....a glacier?
