Csóványos (938 m) seen from
Szabó-kövek (
Szabó Rocks). We're actually on the caldera rim of a retired volcano, there are several exposed rocks around. The snow balcony here covers one of them, extending a bit over the rock on the left, where's a decent drop.
The "disputable-looking" building on the top of Csóványos is a geodetic tower. Officially declared unsafe but is looked after and almost everyone scales the ladders located inside. From its roof you get a 360°-panorama, in good weather even the
High Tatras can be seen.
This route between
Csóványos and
Nagy-Hideg-hegy is also a popular cross-country ski track in snowy conditions.
