| mountainsurfer | Route Climbed: a snow filled gulley southeast of the Ptarmingen Glacier Date Climbed: October 6, 2005 ![]() | |
| The wind was blowing, snow was falling, avalance danger that I avoided, but I cramponed my butt to the top with a cool 15 foot vertical ice wall - old snow that was ice, climb at the end at the top of the gully . Glad that it was the first big snowfall of the season. Good test of Winter mouuntaineering skills. It also helped that two buck elk were at the top welcoming me to the continental divide. | ||

| I have used this mountain so many times to summit other great peaks in the park, such as Hallets, Otis, Taylor, Powell, Notchtop, Knobtop, Gabletop, and Sprague Mountain. The hike from Bear Lake to Grand Lake over Flattop is also a good hike, but too much downhill for me. | ||

| Crossed Flattop after Bighorn Flats on Continental Divide traverse from Milner Pass to Bear Lake. At this point (~4pm) storms chased us across Flattop and down to treeline. | ||

| My wife and I had a very pleasant hike to the summit. We had a snack on boulders overlooking Tindal glacier, and decided to pass on a scramble up to the summit of Hallet (maybe next year). | ||

| The early overcast that I worried about on the ascent burned off and revealed a sunny and calm summit. Ascended via the right side of Tyndall Glacier and descended on the standard trail. Great Day! | ||

| Summited Flattop, Halletts Peak, Otis, and half of Taylor- had to leave early to hurry back down to get someone in our group to work.... note to self, take own vehicle next time so as to not be rushed out of the mountains- it was too beautiful to be RUNNING down! | ||

| Ferenc Jacso | Route Climbed: North Face Date Climbed: Aug 18, 2004 ![]() | |
| I climbed the middle couloir (or finger) with crampons and ice ax. Found some ice mid-August but mostly could avoid it. Wonderful snow conditions altogether. Boy, was it steep! You surely don't want to fall - no runout. Great route description here. 3:50 a.m. start from Glacier Basin Campground, topped out at around 10 a.m. then also visited Ptarmigan Point and Hallett Peak, descended the trail and reached Bear Lake at 1 p.m. | ||
