The view of Mount Rainier, looking northwest from near the 5,508-ft. summit of Florence Peak. From the West Side Boundary Trail at the Carbon River Entrance (1,750ft) follow the trail to the saddle(4,520+). Turn SE onto Alki Crest, then follow the ridge to Florence Peak. In the winter, there can be a short section of ice near the summit. At that time, an ice axe is recommended. In this photo, you can clearly see Liberty Cap Glacier, high on Rainier's awesome Ptarmigan Ridge. Jeannette Heights can be seen on Rainier's right-hand flank, while Howard Peak and Tolmie Peak are in the near distance. Photo taken in June of 1985.
