Ice in the lake? How cold does it have to get to freeze an
entire lake? Does it have to be below freezing
for several days in a row to freeze the entire
lake completely solid?
I know the Great Salt Lake doesn't freeze
because of the amount of salt it contains,
but how 'bout Utah Lake - does it freeze???

Re: Ice in the lake?I'm sorry, but I don't know the answer to any of your questions. I've never even seen Utah Lake close up.
In the vicinity of the Chain Lakes, I heard the weirdest sounds ever, sometimes quite loud, from the ice. It took awhile to figure out what it was. I was glad it wasn't dark during that section.

Re: Ice in the lake?It sounded way more like space aliens than bigfoot.

Re: Ice in the lake?If you heard the noise, you'd be a believer.

Re: Ice in the lake?Take me to you leader? LOL!
Joking aside, I have heard some strange sounds up in the Uintas a few times. Couldn't quite tell what it was. And, when I did the Highline 3 years ago, we camped on Gilbert Creek a couple miles west of Kidney Lakes, and we didn't hear a thing! Now that was kinda spooky. Not a thing! No birds, squirrels, wind, nothing!
