I like it a lot tooEarly winter days in the Artics are an alpenglow nonstop (when the low Sun is out at all) and it is amazing how this indoor shot captures it. This is how the place looked like on the outside - severe but kind of less poetic.

myself. What were you doing out in the
middle of nowhere; some type of
expedition? People laughed at me for
spending three weeks in Nome, Alaska.
Then, when I spent three weeks in the
Mojave Desert, nobody laughed at all!

Re: In the middle of...Thankfully I never get enough time to write all the travelogues I have in the plans :) But if you just click on the coordinates link to the right of the photo, you may get a better idea of what we've been doing backpacking around there!

Re: I rememberthe Urals from my high school geography class. You must share a lot in common with Sp-member corax. The Uintas and Northern Wasatch must pale in comparison to what you experienced in the Urals. That's really amazing! Did they have cell phones in 1986?

Re: I rememberBut Utah is so good for day trips! It's normally take a day or two just to get into the mountains of Ural ... not a weekender tour stuff! I don't think they have any cell coverage even now (just like most of Uintas doesn't have any ... both are vast tracts of uninhabited, roadless wilderness)
