Getting ready to head down from Climbing Mt.Rainier on Aug 9 1969. Check out the length of the ice axe and yes, that is Mt. St. Helens in the background, pre eruption.

Hasn't voted | What a great shot. There are lots of Mount Rainier Summit pictures looking south on this site, but this is my favorite. The combination of the old fashioned equipment, especially the ice axe, and the view of pre-eruption Mount St. Helens make it a classic. | | Posted Dec 20, 2002 7:30 am |

Hasn't voted | I wasn't going to even post this pic as I really don't like posting pics with me in them but your comments make me glad I did. Thank you.
BTW, I never got tired of the views from Camp Muir when the clouds formed below. | | Posted Dec 20, 2002 7:41 am |

Hasn't voted | I won't call it an old picture. I climbed Rainier from this side in 1984 - ALWAYS loved what was left of St. Helens peeking up above the clouds. Did a lot of scrambles with the Tacoma Mountaineers during the 80's. Remember seeing the wooden-handled ice axes, carried by the "more-seasoned." I didn't ever run into any MOOSE, though! TAKE CARE, Dean !!!

Hasn't voted | Thanks Anya. It is hard for me to believe that almost 40 years have passed since I did this mountain. Of course, I'm still loving every minute I can get to be in the mountains. | | Posted Oct 11, 2007 8:23 am |
