Gilbert Peak

Gilbert Peak

Gilbert Peak (13442') and cairn near the "summit" of Flat Top Mountain. There are several Flat Top's in Utah. This one is on the north ridge of Mount Powell and isn't much of a summit at all since it only rises 40' from its saddle with Powell. March-8-2012

Re: Wow

That might be the only area in Utah with a typical snowpack. Below treeline at about 9300', the two nearest snotels were reporting 87% and 123% of normal, 34" and 32". I was surprised to find the snowbanks on the road over my head in places. Above treeline, I'm not sure what is typical this time of year. It is so windy, that the snow just blows away. I was surprised and dismayed at how little snow there was. There were lots of exposed rocks making skiing difficult and there were even places where the grass was sticking up.

Humble opinion ...

There's nothing like the yearly pictures from
Zee ... everything looks so crystal fresh like
a fancy wine glass ...

Very envious ... in Arizona things are looking so brown, even when compared to a low snow-year up in UT ...

THANKS for posting these pictures!
