"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."

An Impromptu FKT Down Goat Mountain at TwilightGot started later than I realized and didn't make it to the summit until sunset. By the time I started down it was several minutes after sunset & getting dark fast, so I hammered it down since I didn't have a light. 24:02 from summit to Waterton Cyn Rd. So many fall close calls! Got lost once for about a minute about halfway down as it was getting hard to see/follow the "trail". That last mile down in the twilight was hairy...technical, rocky, steep, and dark are a rough mix. Ran the road back quick as well.
Happy my body held up as I've felt drained and sick the last few days and I killed my back shoveling and doing trail work the day after 2 1/2 hours of hard non-stop basketball. Back is still tight, but it never freaked out on me like I thought it would.

East RidgeThis is a great conditioner hike for higher / more challenging peaks. A lot of ups and downs, plenty of scrambling, steep tugs up false summits... Going it solo in snow, breaking my own trail - I was good and tired by the end of the outting!

with FPADid it as a warm-up for the summer season. I remember that it was a HOT day. This was a surprisingly fun mountain with a bit of scrambling opportunities.

Favorite Local MountainI climb Goat several times a year. Always a good day. Everything from quiet scenic trails to some class 3/4 scrambling. My office is on the east side of Goat, so every day I look at it out my window. I love bringing friends up there to show them the Goat...it is so close yet no one knows about it.
