Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dendrocopos major) belongs to the Picidae Family. It is about 23 cm long and weights just a little over 80 grams. In the Polish mountains this woodpecker favors deciduous and pine forests, where it nests and feeds on wood boring insects. In May, the female woodpecker lays from 5 to 7 eggs. Both parents sit on eggs. This bird is under protection in Poland. Mount Dział - Czarnorzeki – Poland – February 3, 2013.
