We were visiting some friends teaching at CU and this trip was an epiphany. We just headed out of our appt near campus and walked up Green Mtn, in my sneakers. Since this hike my life changed. After 10 years as an urban professional I discovered the outdoors. We climbed this and the flat irons, and went to RMNP, returning to NYC I joined the AMC, started hiking, then climbing, then backpacking, then ice climbing, then mountaineering. Since then the outdoors and climbing have been a central part of my life. What a beutiful place.
This is definitely not the recommended route up Green. Starts with a bushwhack through the narrows of Skunk Canyon but then opens up nicely in the interior. Packed snow/ice on the upper trail. Great views.
Route Climbed: Gregory Canyon Date Climbed: April 2002
I climbed Green Mountain many times. Great views on top of the snow-capped Indian Peaks and Longs Peak. A good trail, which you can also access from Flagstaff Mountain. I love climbing this mountain and next time I am in Colorado, I'm sure I'll take a nice trek out there.
Route Climbed: Bear Canyon Trail Date Climbed: December 29, 2003
Nice sunny winter day. Trail was a bit icy in places. Great views of the divide, Boulder, and the plains.
Also May 2004, June 2004, September 2004 via various routes. This is such a nice small mountain to hit when you don't have a lot of time or don't feel like driving up into the high country.
