The Route is...

I've heard there's an off-width crack on the northwest side of 'The Axe' that tapers down to a fist jam near the top. The climb finishes through the obvious chockstone cave just below the center of the long North-South summit ridge. The standard rappel is one of the best. It is a free rappel from the extreme north end of the ridge. There is an anchor chain, I believe. Most who attempt this most difficult of rock towers are turned back at the prominent red dike that plunges down from the ridge to about halfway up the face. Those who make it to the top are revered in most countries. I personally have failed three times. I once made it to the cave but bad weather forced a retreat.
