Great way to get introduced to hiking and highpoints..especially since its my native state. Great view from atop. Strong, chilly wind hit around the 2nd big bluff. Other than that a great sunny day and experience.

Worth doing
Easier trail than I thought, made good time to the top. Go fairly early -- the peak gets crowded, at least during spring break. The views in any direction are worthwhile.

Hitching & Climbing
Nice hike but very windy weekend. Some huge cliffs on el cap and NW face of Guadalupe. Wish I had more time to check em out. Highlight was running into Rasgoat in the VC on Saturday and going up together.

one of the easier state high points. some fresh snow. took me ~2.5 hrs one way from Pine Springs campground.

A hot one
A nice hike, but it was hot at the base. In the shade it was nice, and at the summit the wind was great.

Thunderstruck!
I explored Devils Hall and the area beyond the trail terminus before heading up to Guadalupe. Turns out I should've reversed this.
About half-mile below the Guadalupe Peak campsite, weather came in, replete with lightning, thunder, and rain. While I was glad I did not take heed to the ranger's advice to leave my rain gear behind (only 20% chance of rain!), at this point I probably should've doubled back and made for the summit the following day.
This I did not do, and I waited 2 hours until it was safe to proceed (still raining, but the thunder & lightning had passed). My original plan was to make it to summit for sunset. Instead I hiked the last mile by moonlight.
So, I missed all of the epic views, though the lights of El Paso were pretty.
Made it back down by headlamp.

My first desert mountain
Two hours up, one hour and forty minutes down. Only one older couple on the trail from Virginia but they were close to the top when I saw them. Bring the sunscreen if you go in the summer months in the daytime. The flora was unlike anything I've ever seen in Colorado but between that and the view, this peak was well worth it.

Orange and Yellow Trees
Got to the trail head at 8. the trees were just starting to change colors so my hiking buddy decided to take a picture of every single yellow or orange tree we came across. Even with that we ended up going to the top and coming back down in 3.5 hrs.

Third of four
My recent 10-day excursion had this as my third HP stop (#8 total for me) and I guess it's part of what separates a novice hiker like me from more fit climbers. All those switchbacks and the rocky terrain - ouch! Totally worth it though to reach the top of Texas with its great views. Did it in the afternoon heat, which didn't help, and after walking thru Carlsbad Caverns in the morning, which probably didn't help either.

Lots of wind
Amazing views, remarkable variety in terrain. Camped at high camp overnight. Sunset brought high winds which continued through the next morning. Summited about 7:20 am and descended in beautiful weather.

Cold, windy, foggy, snow flurries. God bless Texas.
Late afternoon/early evening hike on a sick road trip from Boulder. Went to Carlsbad Caverns before this. Perfect temps, no wind, clear views. A great experience.

Afternoon climb. 1 hour and 40 minutes to summit. Side trip to El Capitan. Ran out of water on the way back down. Very dry, good thing it wasn't any hotter.

first time in TexasSo I figured I would climb up to the top. Fairly hot at 8 in the morning though. Pretty nice views of the plains below.
