| Larry S. and I were the first ones on the route and enjoyed the beautiful solitude of having a classic all to ourselves. I thought the second pitch was just amazing! We used one 9 mm rope which in retrospect might not have been such a good idea especially if one of us took a 300 footer, which is possible I guess if things go way bad. Luckily the day we climbed was the first day the cables were put up so we had an easy time descending. A four star day! | ||

| everytime i do this it starts with a random night of sleeplessness in the SF Bay Area then a midnight phone call to my trusted go-anywhere friends three hours of driving, three more of hiking and a sunrise from the top of half dome. half dome is such an impulsive decision everytime | ||

| The tick marks in my guide book say 19 trips to the top so far. Have done it in the 70s, 80s, 90s, & 00s. In my teens, 20s, 30s, 40s. Gotta do it again now I'm in my 50s. The best was when my (then) 9 year old daughter and I went up the cables. Four trips up Snake Dike from about 1973 through 2000. Will do it again this year. I blew my ACL on the Regular NW Face route in 2000. For some reason, I consider my retreat and subsequent unassisted descent of the Death Slabs one of my finest days in the hills. | ||

| An easy route with a slooowwww group. Didn't get back to the cars till almost 10:00, followed by an all-night drive to LA, then back to work after a quick shower (ugh!). But I suppose that the awesome view of the valley makes up for it. Next time will take a different route! | ||

| Half Dome was the first day-long hike that I took with my sons Christoph (aged 11 at the time) and Alexander ( aged 9); it was an exhilarating experience for all of us, especially leaning over the top! Somehow that hike must have given the boys a positive impression of hiking and mountaineering in general. Indeed, both of them subsequently asked if they could join me in a quest to climb the Matterhorn in Switzerland ( in 2002, see details in Trip Report on Matterhorn). | ||

| Climbed Half dome for the first time last Thursday. Went with my 15 year old son Zach and a few friends, Wow. This was the highlight of a 5 day backpack trip from TM to the valley. Met a bunch of Danish gymnasts on top, wait till you see the pictures! | ||

| Time for the 4th annual climb of Half Dome. This time, Snake dike instead of the cables with my climbing partner Gail. What a great climb. Even on a Thursday in early October there were over 10 climbers on the route. We were just lucky enough to be the first ones there :-) Did this as a EASY 3 day trip with two nights spent at Little Yosemite Valley. About 4 hours spent on the route with another hour (more or less) hiking up the slabs to the summit. | ||

| We started around 7AM via Happy Isles, following the Mist Trail reaching the summit at 1:30 with plenty of stops to take pictures. This was my second time to hike Half Dome and once again I had a blast! The weather was perfect, the only downside were the crowds. The line at the cables was long, we ended up climbing the final part outside the cables, instead of inside. I think we saved an hour, maybe hour and half. otherwise, it was a beautiful hike with stunning views. | ||

| Hey! I did it! I hiked on up the extraordinary trail past Vernal and Nevada Falls. I loved the stairs cut right out the granite. Be sure to take your camera for the falls! The trail up from Nevada to the Cables is sweet.. very fine for running down. I ran down it from near the Cables to top of Nevada Falls-about 4.5 miles. The Cables are great! I loved going up and coming down-lots of fun..! Be sure to take you camera! I also ran down from Vernal Bridge to Happy Isles. It's pretty easy to run down most the trail. It's too steep for running from near the cables and between Vernal and Nevada Falls which is about 2 miles total that needs to be hiked down. I love to run-so I ran about 6 miles of it on down. Great area. I love Yosemite. | ||
