The gravel road off Gold Lake Road (FS9/Haskell Peak Road) was in great condition, only had to stop twice on the 16 mile round trip to move a rock out of the way, otherwise it was easy going. The trail is easy to follow to the peak, very short hike. Afterword went on to Elwell and then Sierra Buttes, as they are all accessed via Gold Lake Road. TR is HERE.
This whole area near the Lakes Basin is really mellow and beautiful and this is an easy stroll up Haskell. Not much traffic up here on the east side of Gold Lake Hwy, so usually plenty of solitude and good exploring.
This was our second hike of the day after Sierra Buttes. Finding the trailhead and the trail to Haskell Peak was rather simple, which was a nice surprise. The trail was very easy to follow. Only a few faint snow patches remained on the mountain. A lot of forest fires were visible miles away, and were blowing smoke in the area making views somewhat hazy.
