Nice Climb

Apparently I never logged this one. I recall a rough 4x4 road to the upper TH, but ample parking once I got there. Nice climb on the way up with rock steps built in to part of the trail, which made life a little easier.

1st 14er of the year. Tough! Summit to TH in under 25 minutes  Sucess!

https://www.strava.com/activities/7352727142
Heard this was one of the best for views & it didn’t disappoint! It was kind of a disaster between feeling sick, only getting 2 ounces of water, terrible sleep, and feeling too sick to take any calories aside from a few sport beans on the way up, and a half of a mini slim jim and one small bite of a peanut bar on the summit.
Sidenote: Joe Gray you are such a beast! We're not worthy ;)
There were two mountain goats on the summit as I was coming up. They eventually warmed up to me and one of them came 5 yards away, as I was taking pics I noticed the other one on the other side of me 5 yards away. I'M SURROUNDED! J/K it was awesome. We hung out together for quite a while with 3 big Marmots not far off as well.
I realized i was absolutely freezing and decided to get down as fast as possible. Tested out some new insoles, plus tied my shoes too tight so my feet were on fire, and are now hamburger. Even with that, my legs were pretty torched since this was the first high altitude big mountain of the year. Lack of calories/water bonk was very evident the last 1.25. Next go should be much better.
Have felt really off the past 10 days and canceled doing a big peak 4 of the last 6 days. HR was high vs effort feel on yesterday's run, but I decided to give it a go anyway. Felt like garbage on the way up...like the hot feeling you get before you puke despite it being fairly cold out. HR and perceived effort were so high compared to what I felt it should've been. It was cold enough that my insulated Water bottle never unfroze so I couldn’t get any water :(
As usual, HR while moving quick malfunctioned. Also as usual, big discrepancy in distance moving fast vs slow. i.e. 3.41 miles on the way up, and only 3.16 on the way down. This is more pronounced when running even faster miles (5ish minute pace).

Hurrah for Huron  Sucess!

Beautiful hike up the 4WD road and first part of the mountain. At first I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't get up to the actual trailhead, but found the walk in and back quite pleasant. Sunny and warm. First 14er of the year is always a bit of a challenge for me, but Huron is a great warm up.

beautiful and easy 14er  Sucess!

great views of three apostles and a fairly easy and quick jaunt up as long as you're acclimated to the elevation.

An Easy 14er and #22  Sucess!

We parked about 1/4 mile up the road from the lower TH and walked the road to the TH starting at 5:00 am. Saw some eyes in the headlights but it was just a deer. Summitted to bluebird conditions at 7:45 am and spent a half hour on the summit enjoying the great views of The Three Apostles. We were back down to the car by 10:15 am. Definitely one of the prettiest areas in the Sawatch.

#14  Sucess!

As an attempt to not have to drive all the way back to Missouri Gulch, started this mountain at like 8pm and was on the top at about 10:45pm. Thankfully this was the latest summit of the summer.

Awesome Views  Sucess!

Started at first "trailhead", didn't drive a 4X4, loved the views, great hike with a lot of different terrain. The views at the summit were awesome except for the haze from all the wildfires burning in other states.

Ski  Sucess!

With Rachael, skied off the summit onto east face working my way back to the Browns saddle while she hiked down. Then skied the NW bowl together to treeline. Patchy snow in the trees and road made for a lot of skis-on/skis-off carrying which was annoying, but the ski above treeline was fun.

Seven Summit Huron Pk on 9-28-2016  Sucess!

I was the third of seven climbers (plus one dog) to summit Huron Peak on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. There was a rock with name of mountain on it in black marker; no summit registry. Five of seven were women. Climbers were from Texas, Colo Springs, Montrose CO, Westminster CO, Montana, and Arvada CO. Spectacular fall climb. Notable wildlife: Big Coyote above timberline; and snowshoe hare at trailhead area. Ample dispersed camping was available. Awesome aspen color enroute to trailhead on County Rd 390.
