Illiniza

Illiniza is a stratovolcano in Ecuador, located about 55 km (34 miles) southwest of Quito. Illiniza consists of two snow covered peaks: Illiniza Sur (5.248 m) and Illiniza Norte (5.126 m).
Illiniza Sur is a more difficult climb due to its glacial nature, Illiniza Norte is a trekking peak. A guide is still recommended, since the path becomes hard to navigate as it approaches the summit (also the weather changes quickly). Boriss = High Andean recommended Segundo, his friend (Boriss was busy with another client).
It is a great acclimatization peak in Ecuador.

Thanks for posting your Norte photos. I was in Ecuador Jan 2008. Climbed Sur and was quickly off to Cotopaxi. I wished we could have climbed Norte but, too many mts and not enough time and money. Anyway thanks for the shots of the route. I was always curious what it looked liked up there.

thanks... it was not really a climb, just a hike/scramble. I wish to have more time on Cotopaxi - we had a horrible blizzard, and turned around 5.600 m, and I had no time for Illiniza Sur, only 5 days in ECU. I got money, but no time... I guess we always find something to complain about - haha.
