Atop Signal Peak [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Atop Signal Peak
Left to right: Rick Hartman, myself, Bill Jacobs, Scott Surgent
Enjoying Signal Peak's summit.

I'll soon be in Arizona for 11 days to try and finish the county highpoints

Rick Hartman was instrumental in helping to bring the USA State Highpointers annual convention to Arizona and is a 50 state completer as well as one who has completed all the Arizona County highpoints.

Bill Jacobs completed all the Arizona County highpoints as well as all the Alabama
County highpoints. He specializes in the "A" states. Is Alaska next?

SP member Scott Surgent has completed the Arizona County Highpoints twice and is well along on completing all of its prominence peaks.

It was a great April day when the 4 of us reached the highpoint of Signal Peak, highpoint of Yuma County.

Andy Martin of Tuscon was instrumental in the county highpointer movement.

My hats off to you guys! But, of course,
a little bit of ribbing: Where are the
wash boards and billy goats??? Did you
leave them in the pickup parked at the
trailhead? I reckon you must have.

Yup, left them thar in our pickups. For sure.
The four of us tried to make it in Nashville at the Grand Ole Opry but they said our name,
"the highpointers" just didn't sound county enough, errr, country enough.

Hmmmmm.
Does that mean you folks may be lobbying to have the 2010 Highpointers convention in Arkansas? They have an awesome hotel/resort near the summit now.
We hope to be living in Arkansas by that time.

I imagine Arkansas will be the host soon. Seems I heard something to that effect. I just had a nice taste of Arizona, sampling 4 of the peaks down there along with one that has to be accessed throught Arizona, Navajo Mtn. 94 degrees in Tucson, 20 degrees on top of Navaho Mtn.
