Hello, Guido ...

Mammoth Mountain is actually a part of the Inyo Mono chain of volcanoes? I always thought it was separate from the rest. I want to explore Deer Mountain, and you have a very fine perspective shot of it here! I will examine the topo map. Is there a specific trail or route to follow to the summit of Deer Mountain??? - Larry

Re: Hello, Guido ...

Mammoth Mountain is indeed geologically separate from the Inyo Crater chain. It actually is a composite volcano at the west rim of the Long Valley Caldera.
I went up to the Inyo Craters through a beautiful pine forest in March. There is a marked trail going up there. From the crater rim the approach to Deer Mountain is clearly visible and should not be a problem. However, I did not hike up to the summit because of the snow cover at that time. I will create a page about the Inyo Craters with more pics in the next few days. Cheers, Guido
