It must have been a good year for butterflies - peacock butterfly (Inachis io), one of the most common butterflies in Europe.

Actually it was probably a little cold for these critters. They were lame, trying to heat up in the sun. . .

Even though it is not a mountain picture it is one of the most beautiful images on SP I have seen so far.

Thanks Benno. Sometimes, if you can manage to turn your eyes off the mountains, you can see these little bits, called nature beside the trails ;-)



IMHO pictures like that might be off topic but belong on a page - for the overall impression if you will.

Definitely agree with your point on taking your eyes off the mountains! The environment and the experience are the most important things for me, summit bagging is not the big thing for me. You get the best views of course, but if you ignroe everything else then it's just statistics. If you're interested at all in butterflies you must head down Mexico way for the Monarch migration in Springtime. Increadible.

Great clarity in this photo! The colors on the butterfly blend well with it's surrounds. NICE WORK!
