As we started up the Jamapa Glacier, the sun appeared over the horizon and illuminated the penitentes that had formed during a particularly long stretch without precipitation in the area.
Thank you so much! Let me tell ya, it felt like a pretty cold fire that morning... and that's coming from a boy who grew up on the Canadian praries! Take care.
Thanks hshdude! The peak in the picture is the top of the mountain (although you can't see the summit in the picture)- the crater rim is up there and once you reach it, you just have to make a short traverse to the right to the summit. It was a pretty exhilerating day although maybe not so much as being on a live volcano! I guess I like my volcanoes extinct! :)
One of the best pictures on SP I've seen in a while! The subject, the lighting, the composition are all on wonderful display here. Orizaba has been a dream of mine for a long time. It's pictures like these that inspire me to go there!
Thank you for the kind words Tahawus. I know the feeling of being inspired by a picture, so I am flattered anytime that one of my pictures might do the same for someone else. Orizaba is a great experience - you'll love it. Take care.
