Lake Josephine approach

Lake Josephine approach

This is the first drainage after the split between the Piegan Pass and South Shore Lake Josephine trails. It is a bit north of the massive avalanche chute choked with alders that is encountered along the trail. The drainage is a bit overgrown, but provides relatively easy passage. It leads to some grassy cliffs that are slippery and bordering on class III. By trending uphill and generally to the right (south), you'll encounter a small cliff band. Follow the cliff band until an easy route can be found to the north summit ridge of Allen Mountain. Photograph by Josh Olson summer of 2011
