Lamarck Col (right of...

Lamarck Col (right of center), viewed from the red hill above North Lake. Mount Darwin peeks over the ridge on the left, and Mount Mendel peeks over the Col. Mount Lamarck is on the right.

The route up the col winds through the forest at left foreground, climbs the snout of the small ridge at left midground, then goes directly up the shallow valley to the ridgeline.

thank you so much for describing the route up to the col. I've run into a lot of people who miss the return route and get into LOTS of trouble. This photo is required for inclusion in anyones' pack! Beautiful one, too.

Re: Tom

Thanks! Even with a good description, people will still get lost up there. Besides the big 'gotcha' of turning toward Upper Lamarck Lake too early on the descent, I found the trail below the switchbacks to be tricky to follow as it winds through those dikes above the Lamarck Lakes.
