Overview
Ladder section of La Colombier Exposed climbing on La Balme
Situated in the Haute Alps above the village of Les Vigneaux; the crag offers one of the best and most popular Via Ferrata in France.
The climbing is exposed and strenuous and ample sport can be gained from avoiding the fixed gear.
The route starts from the car park sign posted from the Vigneux to Prelles road.
The route divides at about half way at a ledge to the more difficult and longer La Balme (D) on the right or the easier Le Colombier (PD) route to the left.
Getting There
The via ferrata is siutuated on the crag behind the church
The via ferrata is sign posted from the car park at the entrance to the village of Les Vigneux.
When approaching from Briancon take the turning for Prelles.

There is ample camping further up the valley in Ailfroide as well as numerous cheap gites and hotels in the area.

Gear
It is essential to use Via ferrata lanyards along with a harness and helmet. Any children or novices should be roped in addition.
