Lodner (3228m)

Lodner (3228m)

Seen from the slopes of the Lodner below the remains of the Lodner Ferner, just north of the east ridge. The summit isn't visible. It's at the far end of a plateau, behind the false summit left of center. The normal route first heads for the snow covered shoulder just right of the saddle, and there it turns right. The crux is getting up from there to what appears to be a false summit in this picture. Without snow, that section is UIAA grade II. Some big steel pegs are drilled into the rocks to aid with the climbing. 15 July 2013.
