Looking Across Gedney Creek

Looking Across Gedney Creek

Not the best photo, but I include it because it illustrates the forest ecology of the region. The middle slopes have been converted to dis-climax brushfields from past frequent forest fires. The red trees at right center are beetle killed lodgepole pine forest setting up for the next big burn. The younger lodgepole pine trees in the foreground are the result of a more recent fire. The photo looks across the Gedney basin from the trail between Big Fog Mountain and the trailhead to Round Top Mountain on the left and Coolwater Ridge in the distant center. Ghost Mountain is on the right. The trail from the close end of Coolwater over Ghost Mountain is the primary western entrance to the Crags. Photo taken in July 2007
