OverviewThe cable way of Männlichen is an alternative route for the people what want to walk a little more than the route of Kleine Scheidegg but they consider too long the route from Grindelwald. As well it's a good option to complete a very good hike using this route as descent from Lauberhorn to Grindelwald or Wengen. (independing of the beginning in Wengen, Grindelwald or Kleine Scheidegg)
Fron Wengen or Grindelwald-Grund you must to take the cable way to Männlichen. If you walk this route as ascent to Lauberhorn you can take the train to descent in Kleine Scheidegg to both villages.
Route DescriptionWe begin in the station of cable way of Männlichen (2229m) and a good option is the first climb of the nearest peak Männlichen (2343m) in 15 minutes to the north. The landscape is nice from there.
After the return to station we walk following the forest track in direction to Kleine Scheidegg. This part of the route is an easy descent to the col under the peak Tschuggen (2521m) called Honegg (2170m). Th track descent across a big curve to right to reach a point of 2114m. Two options from there:
a) If we want to climb Lauberhorn it's possible from there take a little path to right (some cairns of stones) leaving the track. The path is narrow but following the cairns we reach a little col at 2214m in the east flank of Lauberhorn. From this col we entry in the east grassy ramp of Lauberhorn. After a few of minutes we reach a plain under the peak and we turn to left (SW) walking under the Lauberbeden (house of ski lift). Bordering the house we turn at 2367m to North reaching the ridge of the normal route from Kleine Scheidegg (signal of bifurcation). After a path in the easy grassy ramp we reach the summit of Lauberhorn. This is a less frequented route and is a very good option as well if you descent from the summit of Lauberhorn to Männlichen. Time: 2h.
b) Another easiest but longest option is following the track across Rottsleckli (2118m) to reach Kleine Scheidegg (2061m). This is the most popular route from Männlichen with a lot of tourist. In Kleine Scheidegg we follow the normal route. Time: 2h20min (1h20min to K.Scheidegg + 1h of normal route).
Note: I realized this route as descent from Lauberhorn and the path is evident in the descent but if you don't find the point to leave the track for the ascent (map is very usefull) it's not really very important and you can to choose the option b).
Nothing special in summer.
In winter is necessary the use of crampons and ice-axe some days with hard snow in the ramps of Lauberhorn (be carefull with the skiers)
