PhloxThis is phlox. Lowland garden varieties grow 3 feet high or so, but in the mountains it forms these tight ground-hugging clumps. I like the way the buds are shaped. The open flowers are flat, with five triangular petals, but the half-open buds are perfect little onion domes, the petal edges spiraling up.
