Via Mastodon Loop
Perfect end to a day in Joshua Tree. The afternoon light, outstanding views, and fun little scramble were invigorating! There is a sense of remoteness here absent from the rest of the park.

Chuckwalla
Met a fine black chuckwalla just below Mastodon on a pleasant desert loop. Visited Malapai Hill after.

A week in the Desert
I spent 3 days hiking with Heather and then she went off to do 100+ miles on the PCT. I then spent 4 days bagging peaks solo. I made it to the top of Mastadon around 6:40am and it was nice to have the trail to myself. I then continued on across the valley to climb Eagle (my 100th USA P2k). Other things I climbed on this trip include the Kingston, Kelso Dunes highpoint, East Ord, Cady, Chemehuevi.

First cal. Peak
Summited alone but had a great hike to lost palms and bagged this short little peak for fun. Loved Joshua Tree. Hiked with Butch, Roxanne, and the wife.

Took the kids and grandpa up this little jewel. Incredible wildflowers and wildlife. Completely different from the rest of the park i.e. Hidden Valley and environs. I saw my first desert tortoise here, as well as several chuckwallas. Great to make a look hike out of it.

Mastodon Peak
A fun peak to climb. I enjoyed the 3-mile loop trail as well. I saw a lot of lizards.

Nice diversion
Part of a day off from rock climbing. Took a tour of the southern part of the park, including this little gem. Good nature trail loop with lots of interpretive signs, and a very short, nice scramble to the top. Excellent and unique view of the San Jacento, the Santa Rosas, and the Salton Sea.

Fun short hike
Nice short hike with great views at the top. I did a little veration on the last section to make it more fun! Its was around 95 degrees.
