Meet Avatar the Llama !

Meet Avatar the Llama !

If you hang a left off Highway 87 in the community of Strawberry, Arizona, you soon come to to a place of many llovely llamas! "As the economy is going, people are trying to get rid of their animals," said John Bittner, owner of Fossil Creek Llama Ranch. Members of the camel family, llamas can carry more than 60 pounds. The animals feed off the forest floor and drink out of creeks while on hikes, making them rather low-maintenance animals. When not in the forest, llamas eat grain, hay and grass. Arizona Llama Rescue educates the public and prospective llama owners about how to train them and what traits to expect. The organization also rescues and finds homes for unwanted llamas, and runs a foster llama program. That's Strawberry Peak in the background. And this is a very fine specimen of a llama, right Rob?? (I think Rob's outside hugging a llama.) Respectively and appropriately, my wife and I LLOVE LLAMAS! July 19, 2008

cool

I like llamas too.
That is a great picture.
Why is the llama all shaved except for part of it's neck?

Re: cool

Llamas have a fine "undercoat" that can be
used for clothing and garments.

The llama's fibers are woven by a spinning
wheel. In this way, they have been compared
to sheep, even though they're more closely
related to camels.

Re: cool

I discovered that "handmade garments" can
be pricy, but personal comfort seems to be
very vital to some people.

Re: cool

I do not think it is that vital to me, i just like to have that polyester clothing for hiking. I would rather pay more to get some climbing lessons. :)

Re: cool

If I could turn back time to do it all over
again, equipment and lessons would be on top
of my list.

Here in America, I believe most of my money
went toward cost of living expenses.

Some people know how to live and are able
to do it without spending enormous sums of
money.
