Mexican Red Rump Tarantula

Mexican Red Rump Tarantula

Jeepers Creepers.. "Tarantulas give some people the creeps because of their large, hairy bodies and legs. But these spiders are harmless to humans (except for a painful bite), and their mild venom is weaker than a typical bee's. Tarantulas' fangs move up and down; all other spiders' fangs move horizontally.. This species is known to "flick hairs" as a defense mechanism. These hairs act as irritants, and have been known to cause temporary blindness in attacking predators. At the very least they cause allergic rashes and can be considered similar to nettle sting rash and pain. October 16, 2010

Nice capture

It may be harmless, but I think it would still creep me out to get up close with the macro and take a nice shot like this. Well done Larry!

Re: Nice capture

Yes, but they do have very nice legs ...
