Misch - snow apron & minor rib

A view from the West Ridge at the snow apron. The route actually comes up along the green strip at upper right, then crosses a couple hundred yards at approximately 7,000 ft under the snow. Note that the runout for this snowfield would be more dangerous in early season. Later in the season it is merely a moderate Class 2 talus scramble. Also shown is the minor rib that comes off of the West Ridge. When traversing under the snow you first arrive at this rib. Crossing it is easy at 7,000 ft. It's harder higher up. I crossed at the small gendarme left of center. You then scramble up 100 vertical feet (not 200 as Beckey says in his guidebook) where there is a narrow semi-grassy ramp that leads up to the West Ridge proper. I think this ramp is visible near the bottom of this picture. This picture is essentially the opposite shot to this one.
