Montaz from Gosadon

Montaz from Gosadon

Iof del Montasio / Nontaž is the greatest mountain of the Western Julian Alps. Here we see it rising more than 2000 meters from the end of Dogna valley. Pian dei Spadovai, on the picture very below, is still on the altitude of only 1100 m, while the summit of Montaž reaches 2753 m. From the summit towards our point of view the strong Dragon Ridge (Cresta dei Draghi) runs - its summits can not be clearly distinguished. On the left we have a glimpse into the broad north wall, on the right is the west wall, falling into the wild Clapadorie gorge. July 17th, 2017.

Impressive peak

Impressive peak and good shot Vid. It somehow reminds me of Pizzo di Caro: Just 2727m high, but rising 2500 meters above the valley floor (Valle Leventina, Ticino)
Cheers

Re: Impressive peak

Interesting comparison, Lodewijk! Yes, in Ticino some altitude differences are very big as well. But mountains are made of granite, while here they are made of the main dolomite (dolomia principale) and dachstein limestone.
Cheers,
Vid
