Overview
The Monte Cornetto (aka simply "il Cornetto") is the low but big mountain that borders, on the N side, the wide Folgaria tableland. It is the first (southern) summit of the Vigolana ridge, and has 3 different summits : Main summit (S) 2060m, Seconda Cima (central) 1996m and Terza Cima (N) 2027m.
on the ridge (joining the summits or immediatly lower) a good path, remains readapted of the old 1st World War muletracks joining the gun emplacements.
Its SE-S-SW slopes once (not so many years ago) were part of the ski resort of Folgaria, now the old ski tows are abandoned but the slopes of the old downhills can be still used for fine (when full of snow) ski descents.
Getting There
the tableland of Folgaria can be reached by five different roads :Accomodations
Routes ... some info
sky mountainering tour : a bit short but very fine. From near the old skilift station in Costa di Folgaria (just near the Pizzeria Keizel), just put on your skies and climb along an old ski trail through the trees.
In about 2 hours on steep and somewhere tiring slopes you arrive to the summit wherefrom you can enjoy great panoramic views all round.
the descent, along the same slopes (800 mt of difference in elevation) is really enjoyable if in good snow.
hiking routes :
the usual starting point is the Passo del Dosso (don't park the car near the chalet - intolerant persons)
an untarred road in the wood, toward left, gives access to the lower station of an old (abandoned) ski tow - here 2 different routes :
Here you must follow a not well marked path that, through a wood, leads you to the SW ridge; here you find again the path that, really panoramic, leads to the summit, passing very near the war firing points
