Death-by-Talus From Hancock Pass Date Climbed: Oct 2, 2011
Jeeped to Hancock Pass, then summited "Hancock Peak," Van Wirt and Monumental. Weather was turning a bit nasty on us by the time we reached Monumental, but miraculously held off for us. Headed down via Chalk Creek Pass then past the lakes before bushwhacking back up to the Jeep. Talus torture, but a beautiful hike and a reasonably fun wheeling outing with nice shelves and rock obstacles.
Long ridge climb from Hancock townsite up PT 13147, Sewanee, Monumental, Van Wirt, "Hancock", Chapman, Arps and Poor then back down the trail to my car.
Started on Route 50 at just before 7 a.m. It took me all the way until 11:30 to reach the summit. Became way too long. Did not see a single person all day long. It was very beautiful.
