Garon CorizAire from Burch Hollow  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 20, 2014

Garon Coriz

Missed the turn to head up Burch Hollow so elected to hike Pipeline to the start of the Mt Aire trail before heading west along the ridge to Church Fork Peak. Roughly 11 miles round-trip.

I went up the Church Fork trail and down the Burch Hollow trail. Being a Wasatch newbie, I though the part along the ridge between Grandeur and Church Fork Peaks made a good introduction to cross-country travel, deer trails, and bushwhacking through Gambel oak scrub.

5/5/2013 Church Fork Peak: From the Church Fork trail we followed an old faint trail that cut through the brush to the ridge a few hundred yards before Church Fork Peak. From Church Fork Peak we followed the Millcreek ridge to where the Burch Hollow trail intersects it, and then followed that trail back down to the pipeline trail. We followed the pipeline trail back to the Church Fork trailhead making for a nice loop. We measured our success in the fact we kept the bushwhacking to a minimum.
12/23/12 Mt. Aire: We followed the Pipeline trail from Burch Hollow to the Elbow trailhead and then on up to Mt. Aire.

first time on top of Mt Aire was 20 July 1988; I have photos of horned lizard (not seen so much recently). have yet to get to Church Fork Peak.
6 July 2013: latest of several times on Millvue Peak. Previous times via Lambs Canyon, this time the first from Millcreek (Elbow Fork TH, but had to walk along the road from the locked gate to get there).

Ran from Church Fork to Elbow Fork by way of the ridge from Grandeur Peak to Mt Aire, ~11 miles. Used a bicycle shuttle. I've run the next two ridges to the north, and this one scratched up my legs the most; whoever wrote the bushwhacking is not so bad, was probably wearing long pants and boots, not swim trunks and Vibram Five Fingers. Between the bushwhacking delays and the fact that it was my first run in a couple months, I ran out of food, water, and stamina before reaching Mt Aire, but I forced myself up (had to walk) anyway, and it was a beautiful day of pink bigtooth maples and yellow box elders, with some aspens also starting to go off.

Had a strained thigh, so was looking for an easy and flat walk...this wasn't it. Summitted Mt Aire in a less than spectular time, enjoyed the outstanding view, declared victory and limped down the hill.

Nyle Walton

I have called DeWaal many times and he always preaches the same old story. He always tells me of his inspirational walks up City Creek Canyon, his workouts at a gym, dancing at the Murray Arts Center, and swooning at concerts. I got rather bored with this same old story thirty years ago. I wouldn't consider a hike up Mount Aire a dozen times a notable accomplishment in mountaineering. In 1974 I had arranged to meet him in Zermatt to climb the Matterhorn. He never showed up.

Don't consider Millvue a peak, but Aire and Church Fork are great peaks in their own right. Just East of Church Fork Peak is a grove of trees and thick vegitation that provides lovely shade on a hot day. Nice wildflower area too. Came up from Burch Hollow. Pristine views to the South of Millcreek's mountains and thick evergreen forest. Seperate day up Burch Hollow to do Mount Aire. Extremely faint trail exists on North side of ridge to meet saddle below Mount Aire. Many toads on the way. Descent via Elbow Fork.

I've never climbed Church Fork, but I've been to the summits of Mt Aire and Millvue lots of times ski touring in the winter. The views from both peaks are really great.

{There are 4 peaks with 400+ prominence here) Did Mt. Aire Nov 13, 2007 in record summer like conditions with my kids. Did Church Fork Nov 27, 2010 in winter like conditions. Two very different Novembers in Utah. Trip report for Church Fork at http://www.willhiteweb.com/mill_creek_canyon/church_fork_peak/grandeur_391.htm
Also did the east peak of Mount Aire (Peak 8490) on 5/7/2011 from the GWT-Lambs Canyon access. Now I just need the Millvue Peak highpoint which is 3/4 mile east of the labeled Millvue Peak.
