Trail Clea2  Sucess!

The trail form Botcher's Gap via Devils Peak seems to have been well cleared since some of the earlier reports. There's a register and a benchmark atop one of the summit rocks. The highest is a bit away from the clearing..

Night hike from Bottchers Gap  Sucess!

Night hike out of Bottchers Gap, because I arrived after 5 PM and was not camping Larry let me pass without paying for a day use permit. First hit Devils Peak, then Mt. Carmel after, finding the trail in far better condition than I had feared. Certainly not a bushwhack by any measure. RT was 3:45 for the full hike. TR is HERE.

Bottcher's Gap  Sucess!

Views from Devil's peak along the way made this otherwise lame summit worthwhile.

meh  Sucess!

A nice hike up on a sunny day en route to Ventana Double Cone. The views from the Ventana Trail east of Devil's peak are far better than the summit. Kindof interesting walking through the wall of brush, and still and easy sidetrip.

Botcher's Gap  Sucess!

Hike in since the burn of 08, and the trail was opened in May. a goodly amount of poison oak on the first hour of the hike. The trail is improved along the burn line at the base of Devils Peak.

Dayhike  Sucess!

A hot dayhike from Bottcher's Gap. 95 F at the trailhead, 85 F on the summit. Flies and ticks weren't too bad. Average views. Combined with Devil's Peak.

From Bottcher's Gap  Sucess!

Hiked this as a day hike in combination (obviously) with Devil's Peak. A great clear day, warm and pleasant. Perfect time of year for the hike.

From Bottchers Gap  Sucess!

A scattered inch or two of snow above Devil's Peak, which was melting fast in the warm afternoon sun. Not difficult to find the route to the top, although the views are much better from Devil's Peak. A decent hike.

We shoulda brought skis  Sucess!

We only climbed Devil's Peak due to time restraints, but it was challendging hiking on 3 inches of snow up the south face of Devil's peak.

Route Climbed: Mount Carmel via Botcher's Gap Date Climbed: March 29, 2005  Sucess!

Great day hike with many options to push on to further summits. We made a beautiful trail run of it and cooled down with a cold one back at Botcher's Gap. The drive up can be precarious, use caution and watch your speed with on-coming traffic.

A nice hike from Bottchers gap. Did the hike in the morning to avoid possible high temps. Met up with 2 men at the peak whom were very helpful at pointing out many peaks and locations. A great hike, but not much of a veiw unless you get up on the large rock at the peak. I think that rock needs a special name.

Route Climbed: Skinner Ridge Trail from Bottchers Gap Date Climbed: 4/26/05  Sucess!

Good hike. Tough from the other end of Skinners Ridge up to Devils Peak. Great views from there south into the Ventana Wilderness except it was a little hazy this day. The trail was not as overgrown as others I have hiked in the Ventana Wilderness. The most overgrown was the last 1/4 mile or so to the summit. A lot of Lupine and other wild flowers out but quite a bit of flies as well.

Palo Colorado Road..........Look out for the canyon people!

Say hello to Larry, he lives in the 1969 Airstream Bambi

at the park. Oh, pay your five bucks or he will give you a ticket.

The hike up is a good workout, my time was 2:14 to summit. I am over 50.

The summit is still overgrown.

Take plenty of H2O, those who don't suffer.

Great View!

Route Climbed: Skinner Ridge Trail from Bottchers Gap Date Climbed: 16-Nov-2003  Sucess!

After plowing through snow on my last two outings, Carmel was a nice change of pace (plowing through chaparral instead). Weather was mild for mid November.

p.s. Be sure to check out mpbro's posting. This junction is easy to miss.
