The views!  Sucess!

Perhaps it was the company, but this was one of my favorites of this year. We watched the first flakes fall on the lower half of the trail, summited with about 1 foot of snow, and descended in the dark after a late (1:30PM) start. Watched the sunset, and soaked in the views of Del Campo, Three Fingers, Vesper, Sperry, etc. etc.

Mount Dickerman  Sucess!

One of several trips up this scenic trail - I think the first one was in '91.

Socked in  Sucess!

I definitely need to get back to this one. I did it with snow that bypassed much of the switchbacking and had no views at all. Completely socked in from the TH to the summit.

Snowy Drama  Sucess!

The hike up was fairly pleasant minus the one point where the trail is easily lost. After several steps up the trail appears to go straight into a flat snowfield. Circling back the trail switches back just prior. Cornice still fairly well intact and a little glissading was in order on the way down.

Good Trainer  Sucess!

Was just looking for a day climb in the area and this fit the bill. Good hike, and a great trainer (weight up those packs!)
A small layer of snow is still on the ground starting where the trail levels out (~4.7k ft) to the top. In the snow, I stayed off the packed down path in favor of my own steps as the path was a bit sloppy.
Great view for enjoying a snow cooled summit beer

Early Start  Sucess!

With lots of snow left from the large waterfall up and the warmest day of the year, I decided on a 4am start. Amazing morning. Not a cloud in the sky and firm snow. Took an hour nap on the summit and was back at my truck around 9:30am.

An awesome day!  Sucess!

Kicked fresh steps all the way up from the largest waterfall to the summit. First two to reach the summit today. Cut time and distance off our trip by ascending the obvious couloir shorly after the largest waterfall- it won't be in much longer. Fantastic views as always, had a chance to see Glacier for about three minutes before it was obscured by clouds.

Snowshoes. Snowshoes, snowshoes, snowshoes!!

I haven't had a post-hole wallow like that in a while. One of our group forgot his snowshoes, so, like gentlemen (read: suckers), the rest of us left our snowshoes behind. And then the wallow began. The heavy rain at trailhead turned into snow up above, and visibility was pretty poor. Not totally socked in, but not much in the way of views, especially over to Big Four and Morningstar. Sound like a rotten time? Not at all. It was still a fun romp in the woods, we ate great sandwiches, had nice cigars and, because we're not TOTAL idiots, we each took a pint of good beer with us. Two of us summitted; I wasn't one of them. Oh well, next time.
