punchlineA Brisk Hike  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Nov 18, 2014

punchline

Short but sweet - great views from the shoulder - a little windy and chilly. Note that there is active logging near the top of Mt. Washington Road before it drops down to the trailhead area on the MA side. Luckily I didn't meet one of the logging trucks as that could have been tricky given that it is a one lane dirt road with few turnoffs. The Mt Washington road was closed at the state line and I ended up parking at the Bear Mt. Hiking Trailhead and then walking about 1/4 mile to the Mt. Frissell trailhead on the left. Well marked w/red blazes everywhere.

Great hike in with the fall leaves! I started about 1 mile south of the MA state like and hiked into NY, then came back to the tri state marker then up Frissell. If you have time I think this is a much better hike than the normal route parking at the state line. I think it made it about 5 miles total.

Up from the New York side and over Brace Mountain. The day was sunny but the previous days rain made the trail more interesting.

It was a hot and humid day and of course I tackle Frissell at the hottest possible time, with the sun directly overhead. I was surprised at the steep nature of the trail and exerted myself pretty well in a few parts. Mostly well marked, but I got turned arounda few times and lost the red blazes. Still, a rewarding summit with a few nice views nearby. Better than anticipated, reminded me a little of Backbone Mountain in MD.

We did a 26-mile loop with a short car shuttle to get us back to Jug End. Great day to be in the woods.

Ran to the CT highpoint on the shoulder of Frissel, then on to Mt Brace and then looped back around and crossed over to Bear Mtn before coming back to down to mt car on Mt Washington Rd. A nice day of trail running, the trails in many places are wide and fast for trail running!

It was very foggy at times and no good views were to be had but that is often the case with summits!

Had the mountain to myself. Forgot that Conn. highpoint was not the summit. Stumbled upon it by accident as I was descending.

A delicious hike on the South Taconic Trail - blueberries all along the Taconic crest. Definitely a class 3 hike.
That's it for cherrypicking, tho: nine major ones left.

Nice little hike which kicked off a long day of both Frissell in CT, and Greylock in MA. Superb late summer weather greeted us and made both very enjoyable. State HP #9 and 10!

My 6th state highpoint but the first HP I hiked specifically becasue it was a highpoint. So really, I guess this is where my highpointing journey started. Hiked it from the New York side over Brace and South Brace. Also biked the Summit road a couple of years later.

This was a nice little climb to the top of Round Mountain and Mt. Frissell and on to the three state marker. Very few people on the trails. The views were beautiful and trails well marked.
