This time of year is always funny. We were freazing our rumps off on this mountain, then by the time we get to Denver, people are walking around in short sleeve shorts and we've got the windows down. I was pleasantly surprised at how much snow was on Guyot, esp. given how dry the Front Range is this year. What a wonderful, bluebird day! Partners: Dave "Mountain Demon's" CMC trip.

All the usual cohorts were busy, so it turned into a nice solo day in the hills. I couldn't have asked for a nicer day in Feb...barely any wind, sunny....I'm still suprised by the lack of snow up high.

Fun wintry day. Snow wasnt too deep and winds were manageable. Views from top spectacular.

I was expecting a lot more snow in the area but I arrived at night at the pass and it wasn't until the morning I saw the ridge was mostly melted clear.

Getting to the last 100 feet was easy but that last bit required excavating soft snow before I could crawl over to the top. It had to be at least an hour before I made it.

Climbed with Shanahan96 and Jamie Nellis from French Creek. As Jamie said, it took longer than expected but I think we were just enjoying being out and taking some long leisurely breaks to enjoy the day!

climbed the northwest ridge with jamie and mike. bluebird day with the sun beating down upon us, and a bearable wind most of the time! route took us alot longer than expected as the group seemed to be moving in slow motion. enjoyable day nonetheless.

Flawless day...bushwacked up the Northwest Ridge dirtectly to the summit ridge. Encountered some bulletproof snow near the top, but nothing snowshoes or crampons couldn't get up. Also, lots of rock exposed if those were (for some ungodly reason) not within your possession.

My brother Paul, Ben and I followed the summer bike path from French Creek, gained the North Ridge and took it to the summit. It was a perfect day on a great trail. Found some great areas for backcountry skiing. There was also a huge avalanche debris field at the base of the mountian.

Perfect day of climbing - the mountain was great - little windy on top but the summit cairn blocked most of it!

Great day, short sleeve weather all the way to the summit. Guyot is a beautiful mountain which you can often have to yourself.

An interesting way of getting to the top of Guyot, making for a longer hike than the standard Georgia Pass route if you have the time.

Parked at the last crossing of Michigan Creek at the base of Georgia Pass.

Bushwacked to the lower lake, then bushwacked again to the upper tarn beneath the dramatic South ridge of Guyot (see photo dated August 2005).

The SE ridge is a nice, direct, 1800' jaunt from the tarn to the summit. Unfortunately, the weather chased me off the ridge just below the top at the false summit. A very fun, solitary hike nonetheless.

I looked at this mountain a hundred times from Highway 285 before heading to the summit. From Georgia Pass, it was a short rocky scramble. There was a small cornice at the top of the ridge that made for some great photos. I'll be back in the winter some day.

Great route once you gain the ridge. In an attempt to avoid private property, I found myself on less than favorable terrain. The scree slope was about 1500 vertical and continually got steeper and more loose. That stuff defies gravity somehow.

A nice steep, but rocky scramble to an exciting summit ridge. While on the summit we were visited by a mountain goat. He descended the steep south face; we opted for the SE ridge. The problem with this ridge is that it lead far away from the Michigan Creek Road and there are some nasty willows between the rocky bottom of the ridges and regaining the road.

We made this fun short climb quite a bit longer (~12 miles) by adding an approach from Jefferson creek trailhead. In my opinion this adds a lot of beauty and enjoyment to the experience, along with a little more work. Cool summit ridge.

A good one. Climbed with Kane and didn't know if we were going to make it until the very last ten feet. Met Jon, Sopris, and Raymond on the way down. A surprising conclusion to a surprising day.

Several years ago I climbed this great peak a couple times...once with my husband, Jay, and once alone. Really great views, quite a pile of rocks! Actually, we met while working on a Colorado Trail Crew in that area way back in 1989.
