Busy but rewarding  Sucess!

Enjoyed the sounds of far off fireworks at the Taft shelter and in the morning, climbed the crags.

up Hell Brook  Sucess!

up Hell Brook, backtrack to Adams Apple, summit, along ridge to Nose, back up ridge to Profanity and down Long Trail.
Hell Brook was very steep and wet - tough trail. Profanity should be considered rough and wet but by comparison it was a cakewalk.
Next time I'll try Sunset Ridge - looks like a beautiful trail.

lotsa people  Sucess!

Took the easy route along the ridge from the toll road parking lot. It was a beautiful summer day and the trail was quite crowded. Some mistook the artillery ? explosions in the distance for thunder. Nice views and pleasant summit volunteers from the GMC.

Laura Cowles up - Sunset Ridge down  Sucess!

Perfect weather. Up and down in 1 hr 48 min. On the run down, one of the hikers saw me and said to his friends, "hey look, someone under 18 who still has good knees." As I ran by, I said back "f%#@ that, I'm 43!"

Sunset Ridge up and down  Sucess!

Climbed sunset ridge route. Amazing views above tree line. My four year old son actually did the whole thing himself.

Mount Mansfield  Sucess!

Nice hike, but a lot of fog prevented any picture-taking.

Super clear  Sucess!

It was so clear you could see the buildings in downtown Berlington! Mts. Washington and Marcy were covered in snow and it looked like you could hit them with a driver! I think you could even see the buildings in Montreal! The Autumn leaves were at there peak and there were hundreds of people on top. Even a TV crew was there! HP #20 for me. Got all 50 in 2002. Got the NE 111 in 2001.

Long Trail  Sucess!

Hiked up the Long Trail on my first day ever in Vermont (a beautiful state). The fall colors were in full force and the setting was very nice. The trail up has a steep grade with a few small waterfalls and some nice scrambling near the top. The weather was marginal on the summit that day and unfortunately there was no view from the top. I descended the Profanity Trail back to the Long Trail to make a nice loop. Three hours round trip.

Lazy boy for HP #11  Sucess!

We were lazy -- took the toll road up and then hiked over to the high point from there, pup in tow.

It was still awesome -- views incredible -- if we'd had more time I'd have gone for a full hike up. What a gorgeous mountain, fantastic autumn views of the valleys below.

Quite a view  Sucess!

It was absolutely frigid on top, but the colors were fantastic! Shocked some lady when she saw me wearing shorts. :)

First TimeTo Vermont  Sucess!

Decided to check out Vermont for the first time this past weekend. We camped at Underhill State Park and I hiked up the Sunset Ridge Trail to the Chin. It was supposed to rain, so I hustled a little quicker than I would normally. It was cloudy, but there were still great views. Detoured to Cantilever Rock on the way back down.
I plan on going back to the area and checking out more of the trails VT has to offer. Went to Ben &Jerry's the next day before heading home.

Long Trail  Sucess!

A great hike but no views above treeline because of weather. Called my Dad from the summit to wish him a happy Father's Day. Would love to go again for the views! HP #4.

1st Ascent!!!  Sucess!

Ok, maybe not the overall 1st ascent. But the oldest documented on summitpost.org (as of this entry), and it was my daughter and my first state highpoint. I subsequently visited 49 state high points, and Vanessa summited 39.

great time  Sucess!

went up hell brook today, very cold for june 1, plus chance of rain and off-season--so i only encountered three people and had the top of the chin to myself for more than half an hour. really enjoyed this one--definitely will do it again, maybe in november.

HP # 12  Sucess!

I literally could have stayed on this summit the entire day. Was cloudy and foggy when we got near the top, but the skies opened up, and it was absolutely gorgeous. I can't wait to go back to these mountains!
