LeviStandard Route  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 11, 2009

Came down to Ashland to visit my brother and climb around the Ashland and Medford area. We left his apartment at four and started the hike at 5:20am. We were going to make the climb the day before but was not sure about the parking permits. Bought one at the ranger station but found out later there are permits at the TH. Summited in about four and a half hours. Great view on an almost perfect day! Tripped on the way down and scuffed up my knee a bit. Made it back down in three hours.

This hike with the boys was their Father's Day obligation to me. Started up the trail at 0745 with Jill, Kyle, and Rico. Reached summit a little before 1. It was cold in the am, but warm on the descent and the mosquitoes definitely had woken up on our way back.

An awesome hike/scramble. Beautiful day, mild temps. No bugs!Left the TH at 8:35 and summited in 3:15 with a nice easy pace. Stayed there for about 30 minutes then headed down. Good thing I had marked waypoints on the GPS as I got too far south on the way down, then had to find a good spot to traverse over to the official trail. Even with that got down in 2:15. A super awesome hike, recommended with enthusiam.

Date Climbed: Jul 18, 2008
If I can only climb one Mountain from now on, it would be McLoughlin. The view extends from The Sister (Eugene) all the way down to Lassen (Reading). This years view was the best I have ever seen. Bottom of Shasta whited out, but top appeared to be floating above the Earth. The old look out shelter getting less and less every year. 1999, 2000, (back and knee injuries washed out 2001-03) 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008. Every year getting harder, but more rewarding. Most bang for your buck. Well over ten major peaks in view this year!!!

for small tents there are some fantastic spots about halfway up the blocky, bouldery ridge with a full view of Fish Lake, HWY 140 and the Klamath Basin. Dry, we brought 4 quarts each and had to melt snow on the way up. There is a small canal about .35 miles from te parking lot-great for foot soaking after the descent. Cabin remains on summit are flat and great picnic spot.

followed the summit trail as best as we could. too much snow to really follow it well after about 7,000 ft. unfortunately not enough snow to really use snowshoes... I did, but trashed them on the rocks pretty well. needed them towards the top where it was snowy and icy. crap conditions.

Drove down from Portland the day before. I heard about the expected low temps in the low 20s so I stayed in Medford for the night. Left the trailhead at 8:00am the next morning. It was 23 deg. & clear skies. A dusting of snow at the trailhead to several inches near the summit. The summit didn't have much accumulation but did have some wind blown rime coating the summit blocks. 5-Hour round trip including 30-min at the summit. Long drive from Portland for this climb only...next time (weather permitting) I'll plan a couple of other peaks in the area.

Date Climbed: Jul 12, 2006

The day after Shasta, I climbed McLoughlin starting on the trail and quickly moving to the snow slope on the left of the route. It must have been a good snow year b/c this year, there wasn't any. Not a bad view for such a quick and easy climb.

Lots of haze in the air from forest fires, but was still able to make out all 3 sisters and had a great view of shasta. Bouldering up the left hand side of the SE ridge was fun.

Peak 2 of the 4 day trip. Started overcast but soon turned to brilliant sunshine. First one to the summit but was soon followed by three others and two more were headed up as we were returning. A busy peak.
