Located adjacent to Mount Everett in Berkshire County in southwestern Massachusetts lies Mount Race, one of only several mountains in Massachusetts that has a tri-state view. To the north lies the Catskills in New York and to the south is the Taconic Range in Connecticut. The primary trailhead for Mount Race, Race Brook Falls, is in Sheffield, MA on Route 41. Mount Everett can be connected from this trail as well and made into an easy day hike.

Getting There

East/West-Take I-90 (Mass Pike) to Exit 2 in Lee. Follow Route 102 west until you approach Route 7, whereupon you are to take a left. Take Route 23W a little further down 7. Turn left onto Route 41 a little ways after. The Race Brook Trailhead is 5.5 mi from S. Egremont, MA down Route 41. Parking is on the right.

North/South-Coming from Route 7, turn onto Route 23W, then Route 41S several miles after. Turn onto Mt. Washington Road immediately upon turning onto Route 41, and continue for 7.4 miles to Mt. Everett Road. Parking is on the left.

Red Tape

Park is open year round. Parking is free at the Race Brook trailhead. Carry in carry out. Pets are permitted with a 10 foot leash.

Two designated campgrounds on Race Brook trail, several located on the AT (Glen Brook and hemlock), three non-designated off of the elbow trail.
