Route Climbed: Baldy Notch Date Climbed: October 15, 2005  Sucess!

Fierce winds all the way up nearly caused me to turn back, but I and about 3 other groups of hikers were at the summit by about 11:30am. There was supposed to be a rainstorm coming in the next day. The view from the top was a little more clear than usual, but the windstorm made it pretty unpleasant going. Will probably try again sometime in winter or spring but only if I can get some experience in snow and ice first!

Route Climbed: Bear Canyon Date Climbed: July 25, 1997  Sucess!

My first trip up Baldy was an Adventure. Beginning in the village we started up the trail and somehow got off route. We ended up climbing up a scree slope just south of the bowl to get back on the trail. Once back on the trail it began to snow. (it was 85 degrees) Upon reaching the notch inbetween west baldy and the summit we realized that it wasnt' snowing it was ashing from the massive blaze coming up the north side of the Mountain. At this point we ran across the summit and looked for the quickest route down. Of course we saw the bowl. After 15 minutes of "Screeing" we arrived in the relative safety of the ski hut and met up with another pair of hikers whom just finished the same process we did. Lucky for us they were parked in Manker Flats and were happy to give us a lift back to the village.

Route Climbed: Ski Hut Trail Date Climbed: 09/08/05  Sucess!

The first peak of the 8000m Challenge on So Cal's Triple crown. Blazed up the hut trail then ran the entire way back down on a lovely fall morning.

Route Climbed: Baldy Bowl Date Climbed: 11 Sep 05  Sucess!

A bit longer than taking the trail. The Class 2 rubble approach led to some fun Class 3 at the top. Beautiful but windy/cold at the top. Look forward to trying the Bowl with some snow in it!

Route Climbed: Bear Canyon to Baldy Summit Date Climbed: 9/11/05  Sucess!

Crisp morning ascent, few people on the trail and rewarded at the peak with a sea of clouds covering suburbia and and all of its trappings. Only the majestic peaks were permitted above the clouds today.

Route Climbed: Ski Hut Trail Date Climbed: August 21, 2005  Sucess!

Another beautiful morning in the mountains. Reached summit about 7:30am and relaxed till the people started arriving a little later. Went to West Baldy from there after five people/ groups arrived. As soon as I reached the top of West Baldy I saw six bighorns frozen by my appearence about 60 to 70 feet away. We stared at each other for maybe 30 seconds and they left down the north facing slope. That made my day!

Route Climbed: Summit via Bear Canyon Date Climbed: August 20, 2005  Sucess!

Oh how I love this trail, all 12 miles roundtrip and 5,804 elevation gain and loss (3 times and still loving it). Brought my wife along for the suffering, I do not believe she shares my sentiment for the route. At any rate, clear views all along the ridge and the summit. Busy day on the summit, I lost count after 23 people, but only saw 5 people on the way up Bear Canyon.

Route Climbed: Baldy Notch/Devils Backbone Date Climbed: August 16, 2005  Sucess!

This is my first summit in Southern California and it was great. My girlfriend and I left the trailhead at 8:15am and were standing on the summit three hour later at 11am. The weather was great with a light breeze to keep it cool. We came down the Baldy Bowl Trail and were at the car by 2pm. Both trails were in great shape.

Route Climbed: San Antonio {Baldy) Date Climbed: Aug 14 2005  Sucess!

18 of us from the Outdoorsclub.org made it up to Mt Baldy via Bear Canyon (the Village) in four hours. Half of us returned via the ski lifts. Thanks to R. Pollard who we saw on the summit for giving me a ride back to the Village and saving me nine miles.

Route Climbed: Baldy Notch/Devils Backbone Date Climbed: August 14, 05  Sucess!

Made it to the top with my nine year old Jack. He made it up no problem, about 2.5 hours from the top of the ski lifts. Nice weather, lots of people on the trail. About 1hour 45 on the way down (no stops). Met Cy Kaicener at the ski lifts, gave him a ride back to Baldy Village

Route Climbed: Devil's Backbone Date Climbed: July 30, 2005  Sucess!

Took the ski lift from Manker Flat to Baldy Notch, then it's about 1.2 miles up the ski road to the trail. Great training for San Gorgonio, which is in turn great training for Whitney. Nice day for the hike. Temperatures in the mid-70s, light breeze, sunny but a few good shady spots. 2 hours up at a slow pace with lots of stops, 1-1/4 hours down.

Route Climbed: Bear Canyon Trail from Baldy Village Date Climbed: July 28, 2005  Sucess!

I only saw one other person all day and finally got a chance to see some Bighorn Sheep up close when I came upon a half dozen of them in the saddle between Baldy and West Baldy.
