Culmination of 75-miler along John Muir Trail  Sucess!

I summitted Mount Whitney when I was 14 years old with a Boy Scout group. Climbing the mountain culminated our week-long 75-miler along the John Muir Trail. Great memories!

Main Trail  Sucess!

Used main trail and completed in one day. Great trail (lots of people, though) nice views from the summit, and perfect weather. Wish I would have scrambled up Muir on the way. I guess I'll just have to go back someday.

Main trail - one day  Sucess!

This was supposed to be the second to last mountain on our holiday, and was, although it was harder than I thought and took longer than I thought (14 hrs up and down) but the view from the top on a cloudless still day made the effort seem insignificant.

I would recommend that anyone who has not done this before, and is not sure of their fitness to take a two day option and camp at either the portal or one of the camp grounds at altitude - and make a 3am or earlier start.

Main Trail  Sucess!

Took two days to hike up. Lots of people at Trail Camp, and the summit was pretty crowded. High winds and cold temp's kept quite a few from getting past Trail Crest, so I guess it could've been worse. All in all, not a bad trip!

Via CottonwoodPass  Sucess!

We hiked up Cottonwood pass, Stayed at Rock Creek, and Crabtree Meadow. We camped out just below Trail Crest on the Hitchcock lake side of the switch backs. We camped out on two nice clearings about 200ft below Trail Crest. We summited at 5:30am, It was windy and cold. We took pictures of the sunrise, and took the Portal Route out. I hope to do the Mountaineers Route in 2008.

2x hike  Sucess!

Did a 4-day backpacking trip from Horseshoe Meadows on the Cottonwood Lakes/Rock Creek/PCT/JMT route. Had an absolutely idyllic campsite at the tarns above Guitar Lake. Weather was incredible, much nicer than 9/11/2006!

Took trip with two good friends from church, non-hikers, and all three of us summitted!

Whitney from the west...felt MUCH better on the summit this time after 3 days at altitude!

California, My New Home  Sucess!

I think we reached the summit at sundown and got back to high camp around 2am. It was awesome. Started Craig on that whole '50 High-Points' kick. First time over 10,000' for me? I walked down barefoot from high camp due to blisters. A marmot kept trying to steal our food. First discovery of the Alabama hills, one of my all-time favorite campspots. Good times, good times!

Mountaineers Route  Sucess!

Amazing weather the whole time. We could not have asked for more. The snow in the couloir was quite soft on the way down, but we made do.

Main Trail in cold & snow  Sucess!

Two feet of fresh snow and -7F temp at camp made for a tough but rewarding climb.

Whitney Main Trail  Sucess!

Mt. Whitney main trail - departed Whitney Portal 4:15 AM, summit 12:15, back to trailhead 6:20 PM. Overcast, rain and hail and some lightning off and on all day. Missed most of the moon eclipse due to overcast, but at least the air temperature was cool for the hike.

Quadruple 14neer

Went up the Whitney Trail on Friday, camped at crowded Trail camp. The other day got up the switchbacks, made a little side trip to Mt. Muir, short fun climb! Continued following the trail up Whitney summit, spent few hours chatting with people (there were many), than climbed down the Mountaineers Route to Iceberg Lake and spent another windy night there. Didn't get much sleep as the wind blew instantly to my face through my bivy... Another morning I stared late ,9:30, and headed up the Iceberg Col and then traversed to Russel's South Face, which was a long scramble up the face, than a little class 3 up to the ridge. I took the easier Right Side variation. After hanging around summit with 2 guys who climbed Fishhook Arete, climbed down, packed all my stuff and followed the North Folk Creek Trail down to the portal. I must say it is much easier to do so if there is snow... My knees were killing me... That night I drove my car to Cottonwood Lakes trail head, camped there and in the morning started early for the Mt. Langley never ending day hike... Took me 9.5 hours round trip but it was worth it. Beautiful area at Cottonwood Lakes...
Met so many great people on this trip that I have talked to and spent some time with and that was certainly the most rewarding feeling of the whole trip...
