Mountain Mahogany forest and...

Mountain Mahogany forest and canopy at 7200 ft. for half a mile on the Bear Canyon / Cherry Canyon Trail. This trail is worth it just for the fantastic aroma here. No other Lone Peak trail has this.

caption change

You might want to change the name in your caption to 'Cherry Canyon Logging Trail', instead of 'Bear Canyon Trail'. This is actually my mistake; I originally heard this trail referred to as 'Bear Canyon', and therefore was the name I gave the SP route description.

It was later pointed out to me that the trail would more properly be called Cherry Canyon, so I changed the name of the SP route to 'Cherry Canyon Logging Trail', which is the name appearing on the trailhead signage.

You also have one other photo with the same caption situation.

Have a good one!

Re: caption change

Yes, there is some "official" confusion as to the trail name. Even though the trail is posted as the Cherry Canyon trail at the Bonneville shoreline, the trail never really enters Cherry Canyon. Above 8,400 ft. the trail is entirely inside of Bear Canyon and remains in Bear Canyon to the cirque. Bottom line, the trail is posted as Cherry canyon but actually is in Bear Canyon. Oh, what to do! Re: caption change

Actually, I think the route goes out of Bear canyon after the spring (when it goes up that gravel around the granite cliffs). It ends up on the Little Willow side of the ridge between LW and Bear, and stays in South Fork of Little Willow to the cirque. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Re: caption change

Ammon wins the prize. After studying my map, yes, it is apparent that the trail is entirely inside of Little Willow above 9000 ft. The cabin at 9300 ft. is also in the Little Willow drainage which ultimately takes you to the cirque even if you stray off of the trail markings. I suppose the trail could be called the Cherry Canyon, Bear Canyon, Little Willow Trail, but in deference to the Trail Head and "official" signage, I'm going to stick with "Cherry Canyon" from now on as Joe suggests regardless of what the trail crosses or where it ends up.

No other?

I'm not sure I'd put 'no other Lone Peak Trail has this' as the sawmill logging trail in lower Little Willow has this. Maybe not as long of a strech though. I LOVE this mountain!

Re: No other?

OK, I stretched a bit, but only because I haven't been on every trail. Good point and thanks,

Joe
