Overview

Alta Mountain is one of the higher summits of the Snoqualmie Pass area. The easiest route is via the Rachel Lake Trail #1313 and is about 5.5 miles one way gaining about 3,400 feet. Although one of the higher peaks in the area, it offers at least a climbers trail all the way to the summit.

Excellent views of almost the entire Cental Cascades open up from Alta's summit. Views include Rainier, Glacier, Sloan, Hibox, Chikamin, Thomson and most all the peaks in the vicinity. A little less crowded than the other mountains in the Snoqualmie Pass area, Alta is accessable and located in another beautifual area of the Cascades.

Getting There

From Seattle, take I-90 E to Exit 62. Turn left on Kachess Lake Road #49 and follow it for about 5 miles. At the junction, turn left onto gravel Road # 4930. The Rachel Lake trailhead will be about 4 miles on the right-hand side of the road.

Big parking lot and toliets are available.

Red Tape

Northwest Forest Pass required to park at the trailhead. A self-serve Alpine Lakes Wilderness Pass is required for trail use (free of charge).

When To Climb

Camping

Camping is allowed under the Alpine Lake Wilderness regulations.
