I didn't know that

was Mount Olympus visible on clear days
from the Puget Sound! It would make sense,
being that it has numerous glaciers on it.
What a wonderful view! I can't help but
wonder if Mount Olympus can be seen from
the Space Needle in Seattle, along with
the houseboat made famous in the Tom
Hanks movie, "Sleepless in Seattle."
Which reminds me - I need to hit the sack!

Re: I didn't know that

Good job explaining the location OMB! It is always a wonder to read how impressed the early explorers were to see such a massive mountain from both the Pacific Ocean off the Washington coast in the west as well as from the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the north. Unfortunately, we on the east side cannot see Mt Olympus ): but I LOVE looking at the eastern slopes and plan my hikes!
Cheers, Trina

Re: I didn't know that

Sorry, Trina and OMB ! My geography is falling
by the wayside. I need to pick up an ATLAS,
and get up there to the PAC NW !

The main reason why Mt. Olympus wasn't
climbed until 1907 is because people had
trouble seeing it through all those clouds.
~ smiling ~ Take care and THANK YOU.

Re: ;)

Thank you for browsing! I realize this is a mountaineering site, so I was hesitant to place a sailing photo on SP. I appreciate your appreciation (redundant, but it's early for my brain). Sailing and the mountains are part of who we are (my husband and me). Cheers.

Re: ;)

We can't afford moorage in GH, so had our boat in Port Orchard and raced mostly out of Seattle. We sold our Hobie33 last year (I was burnt out...wanted to hike/climb more). Looking at your sailing photo makes me yearn for a return to sailing. Yes. Mr. binocular is my husband. He tolerates my photos and would love to return to racing. Seattle racing is WAY too expensive to be competitive anymore.
Happy hiking.
