This rock is fractured and between .25 and 1" thick. It is loose and comes out easily in many cases, it's also difficult to walk on once it falls out of the formation as it slides. You can see how the freeze/thaw patterns are destroying the mountain here. Each time these cracks in the rocks fill with rainwater in the fall/winter they are further ripped apart by the expanding ice from the repeated freeze/thaw cycles as it chips away at the mountain.
